Danielle Barbe graduated with her phd this spring

Finishing a doctoral program is not an easy task, but one of our (former) student, Danielle Barbe, proved she can do anything, defending her dissertation and graduating with her Ph.D. this spring, during this pandemic.

Dr. Danielle Barbe’s dissertation is titled “Developing a Crisis Communication Model for the Tourism Industry: The Effects of Source, Media and Time”. A double-gator, Danielle earned her Masters in Recreation, Parks and Tourism from UF in 2016, before starting her doctoral studies. Advised by Dr. Pennington-Gray, Danielle combined their expertise in Tourism Crisis Management with her interests in Communication to develop unique projects during her time here. Danielle has been a graduate assistant and instructor in the Department of Tourism, Hospitality & Event Management between 2016 and 2020, teaching around 200 students in courses such as Principles of Travel and Tourism, Event Management, Tourism and Hospitality Marketing, and Convention Sales and Services. Dr. Barbe’s next step will be as a Lecturer at Northumbria University in the UK. She will also continue to be involved with the Tourism Crisis Management Initiative as the Director of Social Media and Tourism Crisis Management.

The Eric Friedheim Tourism Institute and the Department of Tourism, Hospitality & Event Management are grateful for her contributions to the academia during their time here and are proud of her achievements. Join us wishing her success in her future endeavors!
